The Avalanches’ Darren Seltmann has officially left the band, after many months of rumors that the band had parted ways dating all the way back to February 2014. The news comes as fans continue to eagerly await the group’s sophomore album.
According to Consequence Of Sound, Seltmann’s wife was the first to break the news about the groups split. In an interview with Melbourne’s Herald Sun Sally Seltmann said, “He’s not in The Avalanches any more …. nobody seems to pick up on that.”
Additionally, a representative from Modular Records also confirmed the news. “Yep, Darren hasn’t been in the band for a while,” the representative told the paper, “So officially the band is Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi right now.”
The Avalanches formed back in 1997 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Since then the group has experienced a number of shifts in membership. Past members of the band include Dexter Fabay, Gordon McQuilten, Manabu Etoh, Peter Whitford, and James De La Cruz. The group released their solo album, Since I Left You in 2000. While The Avalanches have yet to release their sophomore album, they have released a couple of singles within the last 15 years including a “Talking To A Stranger,” and “Get Happy.”
According to Consequence Of Sound, during the Herald Sun interview, The Modular Records representative confirmed that an album is still in the works. He mentioned that there is no scheduled release date or official information on what can be expected from the upcoming album. Despite this, he clearly stated that The Avalanches will simply continue as a duo and produce new material.
