Steve Aoki has been releasing a series of videos as part of his Neon Future series, a project which began with his first Neon Future record, which came out in 2014. For his latest “Neon Future” video, Aoki has recruited Linkin Park in an effort to save humanity from a devastating virus.
Steve Aoki released the second part to his Neon Future record last May to pretty fantastic reviews. The famous international DJ has used all of his most notorious electronic techniques to fuel these latest two records and the results have been pretty incredible to say the least. Unlike its predecessor, Neon Future II took a decidedly darker theme, dealing with some heavy emotional, and even socio-political themes. Although the basis for Aoki’s new “Darker Than Blood” video does follow the same basic dark elements in the very early going, the narrative ends on a much happier note. Taking place in the future in the year 2052, humanity has become afflicted by some sort of virus that turns people into aggressive, mindless zombies. Right from the video opening, we see one of the victims of the virus being taken to a hospital table. The video then cuts to Aoki and Linkin Park’s own Mike Shinoda furiously working on the cure for the virus in some closed-off laboratory. Aoki and Shinoda have tried unsuccessfully to create the cure for the virus, sending many infected hopefuls to their doom, yet a glimmer of hope comes in the form of a child by the name of “Steve A.” The video feels like a fantastic, if somewhat amateurish, sci-fi short film, and Aoki has done a great job with the narrative given that the video itself only clocks in at just under four minutes.
Aoki’s Neon Future II released in May 2014. Linkin Park have recently been added to the list of artists set to perform at this year’s Rock on the Range festival. They also released new record, called The Hunting Party back in June of last year.
