Alternative rock band Mew will be performing at the Fonda Theatre on September 25. The Danish group is promoting its latest album + – (pronounced Plus Minus), which was released April 21 of this year. The song “The Night Believer” from the album was premiered on Norwegian radio station NRK P3 and features guest vocals by New Zealand singer-songwriter Kimbra.
The band consists of Jonas Bjerre (lead vocals), Bo Madsen (guitar), Johan Wohlert (bass) and Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen (drums). Bassist Johan Wohlert makes his return on this album after being absent from the band’s last album during his departure.
“Johan leaving was a big deal,” Bjerre admits. “We were about to do our first proper long US tour when he got the news about becoming a dad. There were no bad feelings, and we all remained friends. But it’s really difficult for a rock band to write without a bassist, and Johan was great at the root changes, the harmonic structures. We’d talked about playing together again, for fun, so we had Johan join some writing sessions. He’s a great bassist, he’s very positive and energetic, and he’s got great ears, which really help when composing. It’s amazing to have him back.”
Be sure to catch Mew at the Fonda Theatre in September.
