Sam Smith is a singer/songwriter born in London, England. He was previously involved in theatre and jazz bands, where he studied music under pianist Joanna Eden. This later influenced the start of his career in 2007. He rose to fame when he was featured on Disclosure’s hit single, “Latch.” Since then, he has won an array of honors, including the 2014 BRIT Critics’ Choice Award, 2015 Best British Breakthrough Act, and four Grammy Awards. Today, Smith’s pop and soul mix has turned him into an international success.
Prior to debuting his first album, Smith released three singles which later became #1 hits in the UK. His record, In Lonely Hour, was then released early 2014. He describes the message to be “all about unrequited love.” At the end of the year, it was named as 2014’s second best selling album in both the US and UK.
Through his hard work, Smith is admired by fans all over the globe. He claims that his biggest influences are Adele and Amy Winehouse. Now in 2015, his single “Stay With Me” has sold over one million copies in the UK. He is also nominated in two categories for the upcoming BET Awards. Recently playing a sold out show at Madison Square Garden, his career in music continues to flourish with his outstanding talents.
