Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg and still finished the show in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 12th.
The injury was the result of Grohl falling off of the stage mid-song, reported Loudwire. The accident happened only two songs into the band’s set. After the accident, Grohl said this to the audience:
Now look, I think I just broke my leg. I think I REALLY broke my leg. So look, you have my promise, right now, that the Foo Fighters; we’re gonna come back and finish the show. Right now, I’m gonna go to the hospital. I’m gonna fix my leg, but then I’m gonna come back and we’re gonna play for you again. I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry. We’re gonna do it, but right now, Taylor Hawkins, you’ve gotta do it. You’ve gotta do it.
Hawkins sang a series of cover songs to make up for the absence of Grohl’s vocals. Before the end of the performance, however, a bandaged-up Grohl was wheeled on stage saying, “I may not be able to walk or run, but I can still play guitar and scream.”
This was an epic reappearance to say the least. His return was met with both shock and absolute excitement by Swedish fans for what could have been a show-ending incident. The band later released a picture of the break on Twitter:
With Grohl’s recovery in mind, the Foos are still set to begin their Sonic Highways North American tour in early July. The band already had to cancel a number of shows in Europe as a result of the injury. They’re scheduled to play two shows at New York’s Citi Field on July 15th and 16th. They’re also set to play at the LA Forum on September 22nd.
