WATCH: Little Boots Releases New Video For “Better In The Morning”

It’s always “Better in the Morning.” At least, that’s what Little Boots thinks.

The single from the artist’s upcoming album, Working Girl, came out in May, and now fans of it can watch the music video. The album is set to release in July.

The 1950s-meets-modern-aesthetics video features Little Boots (or Victoria Christina Hesketh) standing in the center of the screen for most of it, sporting a short, blonde bob and variations of “working girl” attire: a silk robe for time at home, a buckled trench coat for traveling to work, a blue pantsuit for the office and even a half unbuttoned shirt for the walk of shame. Each shot is in front of one of about five pastel-colored screens, where she is either on the phone, taking notes, drinking seltzer water or over-pouring milk into a glass of cereal (see above image).

Each subsection of the video is separated by an on-screen hashtag, with things like “BUSINESSPLEASURE,” “ONREPEAT,” “BORNREADY,” #ONHOLD” and “PENCILYOUIN,” or specific references to the song and album titles (“BETTERINTHEMORNING” and “WORKINGGIRL”). Other sequences are separated by detail shots of various objects: milk being poured over a briefcase covered in perfectly-set cinnamon toast crunch squares; hundred dollar bills fanned out around a bar of soap or an egg; a toaster with both vanilla and chocolate poptarts; a folded, button-down shirt surrounded by pieces of lettuce, to name a few.

The video is strange but oddly satisfying – the light colors all come together to give a fun vibe to a somewhat sad idea of a working class girl: the one who looks put together and seems to be doing all the right things, but lacks emotional connection. It makes sense, because that’s what the song does as well – the somewhat melancholy lyrics, reminiscing on a lost relationship and trying to brush it off, are contrasted with the upbeat sound and melody.
