Tickets went on sale yesterday, June 2, the day after the 2015 lineup was announced for the second annual Low End Theory Festival, featuring headliners Flying Lotus, Thundercat And Earl Sweatshirt.
Based off of a weekly showcase under the same namesake held every Wednesday at Airliner on North Broadway in Los Angeles, Low End Theory is a place for DJ’s, producers and emerging artists alike to perform and showcase their material. The weekly shows are 18 and up and are open to submissions on Low End Theory’s website.
This year not only marks the one-day-only event’s second year, but also includes changes to the original setup, seeing a change in venue from the Echoplex to the much larger Shrine Expo Hall, as well as partnering with Goldenvoice, a concert and festival platform established in 1981. There are also going to be more performances this year.
The full lineup has yet to be announced, according to co-founder Daddy Kev, who says, “There’s actually a few artists who we have confirmed for the festival, but we have to wait until July to announce.” He continued, “Might be some more surprise guests too. Fingers crossed.”
After last year’s festival sold out in less than 48 hours, Daddy Kev plans on making the festival bigger and bigger each year.
“[We’re] definitely planning on expanding year-to-year,” Daddy Kev said in his LA Weekly interview. “The ultimate idea is that the Low End Theory Festival becomes a 10,000-plus-person event.”
All five Low End Theory residents will also be performing. There will also be production workshops that will teach guests beat-making techniques. The workshops start at 2 p.m.
Low End Theory Festival takes place Saturday, August 8 starting at 4 p.m. and is open to all ages. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the AXS website or by calling 1 (888) 929-7849.
