Chelsea Wolfe has released a new single titled “Carrion Flowers” the opening track off of her new album Abyss, set to be released August 7th via Sargent House. The song premiered on NPR’s All Songs Considered this week.
“Carrion Flowers” infuses an industrial, pop-like sound to Wolfe’s delicate vocals, a seemingly unlikely juxtaposition that works in her favor, and a much more distorted song in comparison to her previous albums. “Abyss is meant to have the feeling of when you’re dreaming, and you briefly wake up, but then fall back asleep into the same dream, diving quickly into your own subconscious,” says Wolfe. Abyss was also influenced by Wolfe’s experience with sleep paralysis.
