Austin based band, Gobi, brings indie-dance style music to all of their shows. As childhood friends, the members would once cross the border to enjoy the beats and discotecas of Mexico. Their lead singer, Chuco Phil, adds rap inspired flows to heighten their choruses. With this iconic sound, there is an image of “fading dreams and nostalgic yearning for the past.” At the 2015 Austin Music Awards during SXSW, the trio won best EDM/Dance group. The exceptional mix of the 3 and their love for all music genres has earned Gobi a spot in the large music scene of Texas.
In Febuary of 2015, the group released Gold On Black Ice, which became CMJ’s #1 most added album on the Hip Hop chart. Gobi’s recent accomplishments have led to national attention for the group. With influence from artists such as Deadmau5 and Nero, the band combines an electronic heavy sound to a feeling of “spiritual awakening.” Gobi goes beyond their music by striving to create a unique experience for their fans.
Just last summer, June 6th was declared Gobi day by the major of Austin. Also named Austin Music Foundation’s artist of the month, the group brings along high energy wherever they go. Known for turning any room into a dance floor, Gobi builds a special connection to their fans. Adding live visuals to complete their shows, the band will bring Sip Sip and Pet White Tiger to this event.
