Say Anything @ Scoot Inn 6/26

Say Anything began back when members were still in high school. Within their first two years of forming, they self-released two EPs, Junior Varsity and Menorah/Majora. Lead singer, Max Bemis, faced a few downfalls in the beginning as he dealt with inner conflicts. “Part of rock ‘n’ roll is the glory of self-destruction,” Bemis says, as he now sets an example of staying centered in hope. The band overcame these issues, which later fueled their ambition to produce more music for their fans.

Adding personal expression into their songwriting, Say Anything displays strong passion through their music. Now on their 15th year as a band, they have composed 6 studio albums. Bemis’ first self-produced record, Hebrews, was released in June of 2014. It consists of 12 songs without the use of a single guitar. Instead, the band includes traditional instrumentation in the mix of this album. “I tried to speak of the cyclical journey we all go on to better understand ourselves,” Bemis explains as his vision of the album. Hebrews comprises of guest vocals from over 16 artists, including Tom DeLonge of Blink-182.

Initially, Say Anything had a pop-punk influence, but has now shifted into a more alternative-rock genre. Throughout many shifts in their sound, members take pride in their growth as artists and individuals. Playing shows for productions such as Warped Tour, the band will continue as they start their latest tour with Modern Baseball, Cymbals Eat Guitars, and Hard Girls.
