Neil Young is returning with his first album since last year, titled The Monsanto Years. It is expected to be released June 29th via Reprise Records.
The Monsanto Years was recorded with Promise of the Real, an American rock band featuring two of Willie Nelson’s sons, Micah and Lukas Nelson. The album has said to be an “ecologically/environmentally-focused album,” chastising the agrochemical corporation Monsanto, an advocacy Young is very strong towards, and will be full of, “highly-charged rock.”
Young has previous performed with Promise of the Real, and they will join him on his summer tour supporting the album, the Rebel Content Tour. The tour begins July 5th at Milwaukee’s Summerfest.
The nine-song album will also include a DVD packaging and will be available on iTunes, PonoMusic, as well as a vinyl package to be released in August. Fans that pre-order the album today will receive instant downloads of two songs from the upcoming album, “Big Box” and “A Rock Star Bucks A Coffee Shop,” and anyone who orders tickets to the upcoming tour will receive the choice of either a download of the album or the CD+DVD package.
