Peace Is The Mission, the new album from electronic music group Major Lazer, will be released on June 1st, 2015, via Mad Decent.
Major Lazer is the dancehall and reggae-inspired project comprised of DJs Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. In addition to being the group’s name, Major Lazer, is also the name of their fictional Jamaican ex-commando frontman.
This new album, Peace Is The Mission, is the group’s third release. It follows 2009’s Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do and Free The Universe, which was released in 2013. Both of the previous Major Lazer releases have received widespread critical acclaim, and these releases opened doors for the group to collaborate with Pharrell Williams, Bruno Mars, and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, amongst many others.
In March, Diplo and the dancehall and reggae-inspired group released the upcoming album’s first single, “Lean On,” a collaboration with Danish electro-pop singer MØ and DJ Snake. The lead single is in rotation on pop radio stations, has been streamed online worldwide 278 million times, and is sitting near number 30 in the musical charts, while continuing to climb. And, ““Lean On” is currently #1 worldwide on Shazam and #2 on global Spotify charts—for the past four weeks—making it Spotify’s most-streamed independent release ever,” according to a press release.
Peace Is The Mission is available for pre-order on iTunes. Those who choose to pre-order the album will receive instant downloads of “Lean On,” “Roll the Bass,” “Night Riders” and “Too Original.”
On June 3rd, just days after Peace Is The Mission’s release, Major Lazer will play a show in Las Vegas, N.V., that will launch their summer world tour. After a selection of dates at festivals in the American South and Southwest, the group will head to Europe, but will jet back and fourth for the remainder of the summer, as they will play at select Mad Decent Block Party dates in the U.S. Then, in October, Major Lazer will headline a number of European dates, before taking part in their label’s annual Mad Decent Boat Party cruise in November. Check out a full listing of currently announced dates, below.
Additionally, Major Lazer launched the first season of an animated series that centers around their fictional ex-commando frontman. It premiered on FXX in April 2015, and this season features appearances from Aziz Ansari, Andy Samberg, Tiësto, RiFF RAFF, Charli XCX, Ezra Koenig, and Trinidad James, according to a press release.
Lastly, mark your calendars, as Major Lazer will be performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, on June 24th, 2015.
