LISTEN: Joy Williams Releases New Song “What A Good Woman Does”

Joy Williams has been working on her first solo album since the her folk duo band The Civil Wars broke up after reaching spotlight fame from Grammy winning debut album Barton Hollow and performing alongside famous artists like Adele and Taylor Swift. In Joy William’s Marie Claire interview about her new song, solo album, and everything post fame, Williams stated that her new album is based on her own personal discovery as a woman. Her new song “What A Good Woman Does” is about her emotional reflection based on what she interpreted what a woman should be and what a woman should feel. “I used to think if you’re a good woman you can’t be messy, and you can’t be mad. I’ve been learning neither of those two things is true,” said Williams. It has been two years since the artist has worked with former band member John Paul White, after issues arose from the debut album and collaboration for the Hunger Games soundtrack.

Joy William’s new album, Venus, is scheduled to come out June 30th of this year. She has recently made a video for her song “Woman (Oh Mama)” and has released the following song “What A Good Woman Does.” The song expresses the artists comments on the break-up of The Civil Wars along with her interview about her following journey of self-discovery. The solo album is about Williams emergence from the ashes of her former band. Fans who buy the upcoming album will get sneak peaks into three currently released songs to be featured on the album “Woman (Oh Mama)”, “What A Good Woman Does”, and “Until The Levee”. The album is available for pre-order now. “So much of this music video (and the upcoming album) is about acceptance, transcendence, forgiveness and growing stronger for having stared into the darkest places within myself,” said Williams on her commentary on the latest music video.
