One of Canada’s most culturally eclectic and artsy cities, Montreal, is playing host to a music festival in its 14th year running. The initial Pop Montreal Music Festival 2015 lineup has been released, and a couple of big names are looking to make their way North.
The Pop Montreal Music Festival initial lineup includes famed disco legend Giorgio Moroder, who is breaking a three-decade hiatus from music to return this year with his new album Deja Vu. Arcade Fire’s Will Butler who is resident of Montreal will also be performing at Pop Montreal this fall. Giorgio has recently released a song with Sia, and Charli XCX that should transfer well into festival setting. Will Butler recently announced that he would be taking on the challenge of writing a song a day based on The Guardian news stories. Minnesota based Babes In Toyland will too be gracing the Montreal stage.
Pop Montreal features an interesting mix of act. Junglepussy and Giorgio Moroder are not exactly on the same end of the music spectrum, but this is apparently what represents Montreal. One of the city’s claims to fame is that Montreal is a city that is very diverse in cultural and subcultural taste. It is a very trendy town that appeals to young artists, so much so that some bands have made the city their new home. The Pop Montreal Music Festival will be taking place this fall September 16-20. UPDATE:
More artists have been added to this year’s lineup, including Albert Hammond Jr., Viet Cong and Besnard Lakes. The Besnard Lakes will perform as a 17-piece act, along with a premiere of their new album set for release in 2016.
