Foo Fighters Performed Surprise Show In California Under The Name Chevy Metal

Bystanders at the Conejo Valley Days county fair got a shock this weekend when Foo Fighters took the stage on May 9. The band performed the surprise set under the moniker Chevy Metal.

Chevy Metal is actually drummer Taylor Hawkins’ cover band. He was already set to perform with his cover band over the weekend, but Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett soon joined him. For one full set, Foo Fighters became a cover band.

Foo Fighters as Chevy Metal performed hits from bands such as AC/DC, The Knack, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen and Alice Cooper. The set ranged from hits of the 1960s all the way up to the late 1980s. Check out the full list of songs they performed below, along with video from the performance.

This isn’t the first time the Foos have played an impromptu gig…it’s not even the first time this year that it’s happened. The band performed a surprise set in Ohio in April this year in honor of Record Store Day. The gig was near Dave Grohl Alley in Ohio (yes, that is the street’s real name). The gig was at Record Connection, which is only a few miles away from Grohl’s hometown of Warren.

The band has had a busy year, with countless performances, their documentary series and new album Sonic Highways and upcoming festival circuit runs. They recently released a set of previously unreleased tracks called Songs from the Laundry Room. It features demos, songs and special edition tracks in honor of Record Store Day.

The band was also announced on Mumford & Sons’ Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers summer tour. Take a look at the full lineup here.

They will also be performing this month at the Hangout Music Festival as one of the headlining acts.
