With a good deal of singles rolling in from their upcoming record, Hot Chip have done something a little different for the release of their fourth single, “Why Make Sense,” the title track from their upcoming record.
Hot Chip has thus far released three new singles off of what will be their sixth full-length studio record. “Need You Now,” “Huarache Lights,” and “Burning Up,” have already been released, raising the bar of anticipation for Why Make Sense to new heights. Now, with the release of the new single, the title track from Why Make Sense, Hot Chip has done something new and unusual. Rather than release the single in a traditional manner, or produce a video for the new single, Hot Chip has instead allowed the track to be streamed on a bizarre website. The site, as the song and record title suggests, makes very little sense. The site’s littered with words that are jumbled around, and yet still legible. There’s a play/pause button in the upper left corner of the site that works the exact opposite in terms of functionality (pressing “play” pauses the song, and pressing “pause” resumes the song). To add to the oddity of the single, the website looks so quickly spliced together that I immediately began to check my computer for potential viruses (News Flash: there weren’t any).
Why Make Sense will be released on May 18th. Hot Chip has already confirmed that each individual copy of the record will feature a unique cover. The stream for “Why Make Sense” can be found by clicking the link here.
