Previously Unreleased Kurt Cobain Solo Record Announced For Summer 2015 Release

Montage of Heck director Brett Morgen has announced that an album of previously unreleased Kurt Cobain solo tracks will be released in summer 2015.

Morgen discovered over 200 hours of previously unheard solo recordings by Cobain while researching for the documentary. The recordings included a variety of tracks according to NME, including demo tapes, spoken word tracks, Beatles covers and recordings featuring Nirvana and Courtney Love. In an interview with Bedford + Bowery, Morgen said, “It’s not a Nirvana album, it’s just Kurt and you’re going to hear him do things you never expected to come out of him.”

There isn’t a set release date for the newly discovered material yet, but the Oscar-nominated director did say that listening to the upcoming album “will feel like you’re kind of hanging out with Kurt Cobain on a hot summer day in Olympia, Washington as he fiddles about.”

Montage of Heck was released theatrically in 72 countries in April. Kurt Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, mad an impromptu speech at the movie’s screening in Los Angeles. The documentary will be made available on HBO on Monday, May 4.If you haven’t yet seen it, there is trailer for the film, which you can watch here.
