Shoe and sports apparel brand Vans has announced a new free summer music series. It is called Almost Summer, and everything kicks off on May 9th, 2015, at the House of Vans Brooklyn.
The House of Vans Brooklyn is the cultural hub for the brand, and is located at 25 Franklin Street in Brooklyn, New York’s Greenpoint neighborhood. In addition to an indoor skating bowl and an outdoor skating plaza, this location includes a permanent concert stage, where this year’s Almost Summer series will be held.
Almost Summer will bring a variety of well known music artists to the Greenpoint hub to play an all-ages show on three Saturdays, this spring.
For the first concert on May 9th, House of Vans has lined up a triple bill that consists of former Bikini Kill and Le Tigre frontwoman Kathleen Hanna with her latest punk project, The Julie Ruin; L.A. garage rockers Bleached; and, the show will also feature a DJ set by post-punk industrial electronic act Youth Code.
The second concert, on the 23rd of May, is a hometown show for the beloved, wry-witted rockers Parquet Courts, and up-and comers Pill, as the both bands got their start in Brooklyn, N.Y. And, this Saturday’s concert also features the talents of Dirtmap Record’s punk band Radioactivity, along with a DJ set by The Blackouts.
Then, the final concert on June 13th, brings together the talents of legendary Virginia hip-hop artist Pusha T, along with a performance by DJ Envy. And, rounding out the lineup is a very special top-secret performance by an artist or band that has not been announced to the public.
Lastly, in keeping with “proper Vans fashion, food trucks and free PBR will be available,” according to a press release.
