The Smashing Pumpkins will be performing at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on July 9 and they will be touring with no other than Marilyn Manson for the upcoming “End Times” tour. Lead singer of The Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan has had an off and on friendship with Manson since the 90s and it seems now they are closer than ever. The two will be promoting their latest releases: The Smashing Pumpkins Monuments to an Elegy and Marilyn Manson’s Pale Emperor.
The Smashing Pumpkins are an alternative rock band from Chicago and gained worldwide popularity during the 90s. After the band broke up in 2000, they reformed in 2007, though only two of the original members returned. A few more albums and lineup changes later, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently touring with Billy Corgan (lead guitar, vocals), Jeff Schroeder (guitar), Mark Stoermer (bass, originally from The Killers) and Brad Wilk (drums, from Soundgarden and Audioslave). The band’s latest album produced three singles so far: “Being Beige,” “One and All (We Are),” and “Drum + Fife.”
Marilyn Manson’s lineup includes Marilyn Manson (vocals), Twiggy Ramirez (lead guitar), Paul Wiley (bass) and Gil Sharone (drums). Manson’s latest album The Pale Emperor debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 with over 51,000 copies sold, the band’s highest opening week figure since Eat Me, Drink Me debuted at the same position with 88,000 copies in 2007.
The 23-date tour is scheduled to begin on July 7 in Concord, California and will conclude in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 8. American hip hop recording artist Cage has confirmed that he will serve as the opening act for the duration of the tour. Be sure to relive the 90s at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater as The Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson crash into town.
