English rock band Muse will be performing at the Mayan on May 15 in support of the new album Drones, coming out on June 8. The band consists of Matthew Bellamy on lead vocals, piano, keyboard and guitar, Chris Wolstenholme on backing vocals and bass guitar, and Dominic Howard on drums and percussion. Their sound is a blend of alternative rock, classical music, electronica, metal, Spanish guitars, and progressive rock.
The trio has been friends since their formation in early 1994 and since then, they have released six albums. They have received many awards and nominations, including Favorite Alterative Artist in the American Music Awards (2010), a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album for their album The Resistance (2011), and several Kerrang Awards, the most recent being Best Live Act (2006). As of June 2012, Muse had sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
The band’s upcoming release centers on themes such as deep ecology, the empathy gap, and World War III. If Muse’s success is any indication of what to expect, Drones should be considered one of the better rock albums to come out this year. Be sure to catch Muse as they play at the Mayan next month.
