The Replacements just debuted a new song entitled “Whole Foods Blues” on their reunion tour and there is fan footage of the performance at the Palladium in Los Angeles.
The reunion tour, which began April 9 and ends June 2, is the band’s first tour since 1991. The Replacements will be performing at Converse Rubber Tracks Live in Boston on April 27 as part of the tour. According to Stereogum, The Replacements have been busy with new recording sessions and box set reissues in the time surrounding and during the tour. A biography of the band called Trouble Boys is in the works, as is a potential documentary.
The Replacements formed in Minneapolis in 1979 and recorded a total of seven studio albums between 1981 and 1990. They broke up in 1991 and didn’t regroup to play again until 2013, when they played at Riot Fest in three North American cities. Though there has already been one documentary focused on The Replacements, this tour has proved that they are not done making new material.
The fan-made footage of The Replacements’ performance of “Whole Foods Blues” live in Los Angeles contains minimal showmanship, but the band keeps the audience enthralled nonetheless. The track is quite literally a blues song about shopping at Whole Foods, including encountering attitude from one’s hippie hair to their punk rock feet.
