Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder recently made an appearance with The Sonics and performed “Leaving Here.” The performance was part of The Sonics’ guest appearance at Seattle’s Easy Street Records on Saturday.
Prior to the performance, The Sonics promised that the event would feature special guests. Fans were quite surprised when this gathering organized to benefit Seattle’s public radio station KEXP, brought out Vedder to sing the classic.
According to Rolling Stone, the track “Leaving Here” has undergone quite a few covers over the years. The original version created by Holland-Dozier-Holland, has seen covers from the Birds, Motorhead, the Who, and Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam’s version was actually inspired by the Who’s cover and the group performed it in 1996 benefit compilation Home Alive. Later on, the track ended up on the b-side of Lost Dogs. Pearl Jam also normally plays “Leaving Here” when they perform live.
Earlier this month, The Sonics released a new album, This Is The Sonics. This album, which received great reviews, marks a milestone for The Sonics. The group’s last album was released in 1980, yet this album was still superb. Additionally, the group has been around for 50 years now and has remained highly relevant.
As for Pearl Jam, the group recently announced their tour dates for 2015 which will begin November 4. The group will make appearances in Chile, Brazil, and Mexico. More on Pearl Jam’s tour can be found here.
