Fresh off of a string of sold-out shows during a tour of both the East Coast and the U.K., the Handsome Family have posted a new series of concert dates for a Spring tour this year. They’ll kick off the tour in Indio and close out in Washington on May 2nd.
Although they have been in the recording industry for well over twenty years and have had their dark, brooding country songs covered by Jeff Tweedy, they have never quite seen the level of success that has recently been bestowed upon the band. Bruce Springsteen is an outspoken fan of the group. Their theme song to the hit show True Detective, “Far From Any Road,” has been a massive success for the group. Their notoriety has since skyrocketed, and their brand of rather sad, low-key alt-country songs has swept the music industry by force. Consisting of songwriting duo and husband and wife Brett and Renee Sparks. Brett, who writes the music, and Renee, who writes the lyrics, have formed a spectacular duo that produces music that consists of tightly-researched and tightly-composed narrative, narrative that drips with descriptions and metaphors and evokes intense images to the listener. Their music is a beautiful, complex emotional canvas that transcends the ears of the listeners and penetrates the soul in a deep and meaningful way that very few groups can truly accomplish.
The Handsome Family’s recent record, Wilderness is currently out. The tour begins on April 24th.
