Suge Knight Will Officially Stand Trial For Murder

Former music executive and producer Suge Knight was charged with murder and attempted murder in early 2015 after his alleged involvement in fatal hit-and-run car accident. He has now been officially ordered to stand trial for murder.

The ruling was issued on April 16 after a two-day preliminary hearing with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Coen, according to NME. Knight was originally charged with two counts of hit-and-run, but the judge dismissed one of them, so Knight will stand trial for one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of hit-and-run. Judge Coen also lowered Knight’s bail from $25 million to $10 million.

When the bail had been set at $25 million, Knight collapsed in the court, reportedly hitting his head. Judge Coen maintained that the high bail was justified because the mogul was on bail for a separate robbery case when he was arrested in January. Knight’s defense attorney, Matthew Fletcher, told the court that his client is diabetic and has a blood clot, and had been forced into solitary confinement without access to medication.

Since his arrest, Knight has had to leave court in an ambulance four times due to various health issues. In addition, he is blind in one eye, has only 15 percent vision in his other eye and has blood clot in his lungs due to having been shot six times in 2014.

The incident happened on January 29, in a Compton, California, fast food parking lot. Supposed video evidence of Knight running over man with his truck surfaced in March. If Knight is convicted in court, he could face up to life in prison.

Cle ‘Bone’ Sloan testified in court on April 13 that he punched Knight leading to the attack, but would not share any more information, as he did not want to be a “snitch.” He also said, “I will not be used to send Suge Knight to prison. Every day, I try to forget it. I just know, I screwed up, and Terry’s dead.”
