Canadian DJ Kid Koala will be taking part in the Luminato Festival Cabaret Series in June 2015, and his show will involve an interactive portion to engage the audience in the concert experience.
For the third year in a row, Kid Koala returns to the Luminato Festival with his popular series of “quiet time” events. In 2013, Kid Koala unveiled his Space Cadet Headphone Concert, and in 2014, he created the widely acclaimed Nufonia Must Fall Live event. In 2015, Kid Koala will be presenting “an innovative collection of dreamy, atmospheric tracks composed especially for this event,” according to a press release.
And, as noted above, the concert is going to require audience participation, but instead of the usual sing-alongs that commonly happen at shows, Kid Koala and his team will have everyone in the audience playing along on their own turntables.
“Each audience member will be seated at one of 60 mini turntable stations which includes a small crate of colour coded custom vinyl, an effects pedal, and a record player,” a press release states.
At this point, you may be wondering how the audience will know when to play along?
“We’ve created a series of Satellite Orchestra tone vinyl where each disc is designed to harmonize with key moments in the show,” Kid Koala said in a press release. And, the audience members will be clued by subtle changes in the room’s lighting, when it is their turn to play along on the turntables. In doing so, the audience becomes an “integral part of the show, accompanying Kid Koala to create an “ambient vinyl orchestra,” melding their individual strains into a fluid body of sound,” according to the Luminato Festival webpage. And, ideally, “Kid Koala’s ambition is to have dozens of harmonized turntables create a unique, uplifting, dynamic evening of light and music.”
The events with Koala Kid will take place on June 19th and 20th, respectively, with both shows beginning at 7 p.m., according to the Festival’s event page.
