On Thursday April 16th, 2015, Italian electronic music legend Giorgio Moroder revealed the track listing and title for his twenty-first album. It is called Déjà Vu, and the album’s release date is set for June 12th, 2015.
Moroder was born in 1940, and has enjoyed a lengthy career since gaining notoriety in the late 1960s and early 1970s. As a songwriter, Moroder penned the 1972 No. 1 hit “Son Of My Father,” which was performed and made famous in Great Britain by Chicory Tip. And he would go on to produce a number of late-1970s disco hits for Donna Summer, including “Bad Girls,” “Last Dance,” and “I Feel Love.”
Additionally, Morder has worked with Bonnie Tyler, Kylie Minogue, David Bowie and Blondie. In more recent times, he teamed up with electronic music duo Daft Punk on their critically acclaimed fourth album, Random Access Memories, which was released in 2013.
Following the collaboration with Daft Punk, found himself experiencing a career resurgence. He said:
“Daft Punk, who I love. After they asked me to be on their record I started to get offers to DJ, which I had never done, and that was a great thing, and then I started to get offers for a deal, and Sony/RCA was the best, so I went with them. And I love so many artists, working on the new video with Jai Lewis, and collaborating with Sia, Kylie Minogue, I met with Lady Gaga, who was terrific, so talented. [Moroder re-mixed Gaga and Tony Bennet’s “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love”]. At my age, in 2014, I was more than happy. And now, between my collaborations and DJing, I love my second career.”
Déjà Vu finds Moroder collaborating with a few of the artists mentioned above – namely, Australian singer-songwriter Sia, and Australian pop-star/actress Kylie Minogue. The album also features appearances by Charli XCX, Britney Spears, Kelis, Foxes and more. Check out the entire track listing and a list of Moroder’s guests below.
According to Brooklyn Vegan and Billboard, the title track from Déjà Vu will be released on Friday April 17th, 2015. But, in the meantime, you can check out the video of “Right Here Right Now,” which features Kylie Minogue. Additionally, take a listen to “74 Is The New 24,” which just might be the case with Moroder’s resurgence in his mid-70s.
