Coal Chamber is gearing up for their first full-length project since 2002. To build an even bigger buzz around the news, this morning Coal Chamber released a new lyric video for their song “Suffer In Silence.” The song featuring Al Jourgensen will be on Coal Chamber’s upcoming album titled Rivals.
Coal Chamber’s rage filled song is a ball of emotion being thrown at the listener. From the opening of the track Fafara lets out his frustrations, and thoughts about life without someone he’s grown close to. This isn’t the typical lyric video either. Instead of words just blandly shooting across the screen with the track backing, actual footage of Dez Fafara and Al Jourgensen recording “Suffer In Silence” intertwine with the lyrics. A haunting mini animation sequence during the chorus reoccurs throughout the song that takes the listener on a “midnight walk through cemetery blocks.” The pulse-pounding nature of the song is highlighted by the intense lyrics. In the second verse of the song as the guitar riff hits the lyrics “It’s like the midnight/ just doesn’t feel right/ somethings can not (be forgotten (x2)).” What often goes overlooked in heavy metal songs is the fact that there is actual content behind each song. Expression takes on many forms, and this is how Coal Chamber deals with heartbreak. The title “Suffer In Silence” is merely the result of one being trapped in their own head feeling like they have no one to talk to. The song plays out with repetition of some of the lyrics throughout the song followed by Fafara screaming “Won’t be the same without you.” Thus creating the sense of longing on Fafara’s side, and connectivity on the audience’s.
The song features vocals from Ministry’s frontman Al Jourgensen. Fafara had comments on working with his long time friend Al Jourgensen.
“Al has been a close friend for many years, he’s a legend, and literally was the only guy I asked to be a guest on this record. He came over to the house, we had BBQ, a hell of a lot of wine, then I had the pleasure of watching him in my home studio do what he does! I f—ing love this song so jam it loud!”
The song “Suffer In Silence” is off the upcoming Coal Chamber album Rivals. The album will be released May 19th through Napalm records, and Coal Chamber will be playing at the 2015 Heavy Montreal festival the first full weekend in August.
