Although no one quite knows Drake’s take, Lykke Li has just done a cover of his song “Hold On, We’re Going Home.” Needless to say, I think Drake will be pleased.
Drake and Lykke Li have been in a bit of a cover war with each other since Drake covered Lykke Li’s 2009 track, “Little Bit.” Now, Lykke Li has countered with a cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home.” While there have been quite a few odd or even horrible covers of popular songs over the years, but Lykke Li’s cover should be considered as anything but. The video of the performance is not flashy, not overly-produced, and not even one shred near bad or terrible. It’s very simple in its presentation, as all you get in the video is Lykke Li herself, giving the song everything she’s got. She’s mostly invisible in the video, drenched in shadows throughout the video. When we do see her clearly, she seems to have a bit of a pained expression on her face. The song is in some way very personal to her, and it shows in her performance of the song. The video is haunting, dark, brooding, and spectacular all at once.
Lykke Li has been releasing several videos as of late. The two most recent, aside from this video, has been a song off of her more recent record, a song called “Never Gonna Love Again”. She has also released a video for her performance with Woodkid in a song called “Never Let You Down.”
