BABYMETAL, the Japanese all-female teenage metal trio, are re-releasing their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album – BABYMETAL – in the U.S., after they recently signed with RAL/Sony Music Entertainment.
The young trio of 17-year-old SU-METAL and 15-year-olds YUIMETAL and MOAMETAL, backed by a four-piece band, blend J-Pop Idol and Heavy Metal in a style that is known as Kawaii Metal. Since their formation in 2010, they have had two songs, “Ijime, Dame, Zettai!” and “Megistune,” which ranked in the Top 10 Oricon Chart in their native Japan. And, their debut album earned the #1 spot on Japan’s album chart and Billboard’s World Album Chart, according to a press release.
BABYMETAL will be available for purchase through digital download beginning on Tuesday, May 12, and it will be available physically on Tuesday, June 16.

In 2014, BABYMETAL headlined a series of sold out concerts around the world, from New York to London, and played a show at the 20,000 capacity multipurpose Saitama Super Arena in Japan. That same year, they would go on to perform at the UK’s massive Sonisphere in front of some 65,000 festival-goers and provided support for Lady Gaga on her “Artrave: The Artpop Ball” tour.
“After witnessing the band’s sold-out New York show, we knew we wanted to be involved,” said Bill Richards, VP of Marketing at RAL/Sony Music Entertainment. “The core metal fans and metal press seem to get BABYMETAL, which shows how the language of music transcends boundaries. They hit all the entertainment buttons and are really fun to watch.”
On May 9th, 2015, the trio will kick off their “The Dark Knights Begin” World Tour with a performance in Mexico City, Mexico. Then, they will head up to play a show in Toronto, Canada, before coming to the U.S. for two performances. The first American show is on May 14th at Chicago’s House of Blues, and the second will be an appearance at Rock On The Range in Columbus, Ohio, on May 16th, 2015.
