Tidal was relaunched at a press conference in New York on Thursday, April 2. The conference included a statement about new company’s alignment with leading wireless company, Sprint, which received a swift response.
Vania Schlogel, the spokesperson who opened up the launch press conference for Tidal, introduced the new company to an eager New York crowd. She began her announcement by briefly describing the vision of the company, as well as its capabilities both now and for the future. During this description, she touched on Tidal’s partnership with Sprint:
In addition to the artists, we are very proud to partner with Sprint that was recently acquired by SoftBank and is now lead by successful entrepreneur, Marcelo Claure. From day one, Marcello and Jay have been aligned in the vision of creating the most revolutionary music and entertainment platform for the planet.
In response to Tidal’s statement about the partnership, Sprint said this:
We are working together in partnership for the vision of the common cause of reestablishing the value of music, it is NOT a financial investment or exclusive partnership.
Neither Tidal nor Sprint has denied that their two companies are working in partnership. That being said, what has come to light is that no money has gone towards the new music tech company on Sprint’s behalf as of now. It appears that the primary focus of the relationship at the moment is to discover and implement innovative ways of bringing the new service to users worldwide.
