Tei Shi, or Valerie Teicher, hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina and is currently based out of Brooklyn, New York. The singer-songwriter has made a name for herself combining varies genres, like R&B, indie pop, and shoegaze. Still relatively new to the game, Tei Shi first began releasing music back in 2013. In November of that year, she released her debut EP, Saudade. To gain an understanding of the vibe she was going for, one might look to the EP title. The word “saudade” is Portuguese. It describes a “sentimental yearning for someone or for the happiness of a former place or time.”
Now, Tei Shi has another EP for fans to take a listen to. An EP which some are already calling her best work yet, empowered in large part by her strong songwriting capabilities. Her EP, Verde, will be officially released on April 12th, but if you’d like an early listen you can head over to Hype Machine for a preview.
In support of her new music, Tei Shi is embarking on a rather extensive tour this spring/summer. Beginning in April, US fans will have a chance to see her perform live as she headlines a few gigs across the states, including a stop in Philly on the 30th. Grab your tickets now to catch her on the super intimate Milkboy stage. In addition to her own headlining gigs, she’ll also have a few shows in support of Lapsley and Jungle. Be sure to catch her when she makes her way to Philly this April!
