Bahamas @ World Cafe Live 6/18

This summer, Bahamas will be headed out on a 15-show tour of North America. In addition to their headlining gigs, Bahamas will also appear at several festivals this summer, including Firefly and Bonnaroo. They are currently out supporting their latest release, 2014’s Bahamas Is Afie, which includes their hit track and the perfect song for relaxing on the beach, “All The Time.” And you can see them perform the song for yourself when they take the stage at World Cafe Live on Thursday, June 18th.

Bahamas is the stage name for Afie Jurvanen, a musician who is actually from Canada. The multi-talented, self-taught musician released his debut record, Pink Strat, under the Bahamas moniker in 2009. The album was nominated for a Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year – Solo. Then in 2012 came his follow up and critically acclaimed second album, Barchords. Again, this album received a Juno nomination, this time for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. In 2014, he released his third album, Bahamas Is Afie. The album found its way onto the top albums of the year list, and again received a Juno nomination.

And now, Afie and his touring band, are out supporting that much lauded album. In discussing the record he said, “This feels like a self-titled record to me. The songs seem to have a definitive quality to them, and they ended up going to all kinds of unexpected musical places.” He also found himself departing a bit from the folk sound he had become known for. After all, this is a guy who has toured with Jack Johnson, Wilco, and even Robert Plant. But he said, “I feel like I’ll get another chance to make a folkie record somewhere down the road. For now, this is me.” And you can see what exactly that means when he arrives in Philly this June.
