The Milk Carton Kids have announced their latest album, Monterey, set to release on May 19th. The title track is the first single from their upcoming album which was recorded during their cross country tour in 2014.
Monterey is the bands third album and is the follow-up to 2013’s The Ash & Clay. The Milk Carton Kids was formed by Joey Ryan and Kenneth Patetngale in 2011. In 2014, the band received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Folk Album and won Group of the Year at the Americana Music Awards.
For their latest album, the duo decided to ditch the recording studio and record all their songs in venues instead. Joey Ryan told Rolling Stone, “We’d get to town, go into the venue around noon, stand on the stage in the same position as we would normally stand in a show — although there was no one there — and just run tape.” He continued, “We wanted to capture something about our live performances that we’d never been able to capture in the studio before.”
