Hop Along @ Union Transfer 5/9

The hugely talented Philly band, Hop Along, have a new album in the works. So far, they’ve released two tracks from the upcoming release Painted Shut. Last week they premiered the first single from that album, and you can take a listen to “Waitress” over here. Philly fans were instantly enamored with the debut track, and now they have even more to be excited about with the release of a second single from Painted Shut.

This time, the’ve released a darker track with “Powerful Man.” The song tells the story of lead singer Frances Quinlan seeing a young child being abused by his father in front of a school. Quinlan discussed how, even though he was 18 at the time, he recalls being “immediately afraid of this man,” and thus didn’t confront him. He went on to say, “I witnessed a frightening part of myself that day: in a time of crisis I was not there for a child, I froze up.”

It’s probably the honesty within their lyrics that draws people to Philly’s Hop Along. With their new album coming out on May 5th, via Saddle Creek, Hop Along have also announced an accompanying tour slated for the spring. They’ll bring their show to Union Transfer on May 9th. Painted Shut will be the band’s first release with Saddle Creek since signing with the label this past fall.
