Legendary rock group Led Zeppelin’s frontman Robert Plant, and Jack White came together at Lollapalooza Argentina to perform “The Lemon Song”. A Jack White and Robert Plant sighting should not come as a surprise. Robert Plant has mentioned in the past him wanting to work with Jack White.
While promoting his album Lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar, Robert Plant expressed his love for Jack White’s musical ability and how he can continue creating while adding different elements to his sound. Jack White has built a reputation for working with legends, and some would argue that White is this current generation’s legend. Jack White has been seen in the past covering Led Zeppelin’s “The Lemon Song” sans Robert Plant, and fans of both Jack White and Robert Plant began to wonder “what it would be like if these two were able to perform “The Lemon Song” together?”
Argentina was in for a huge surprise when during Jack White’s set the rocker decided to bring out a special guest. Jack White welcomed Robert Plant to the stage to perform Led Zeppelin’s classic “The Lemon Song”. The smoky vocals from plant were accented by the blue lighting accompanying the smooth song. Fans who are a couple of generations removed from Led Zeppelin’s heyday were still singing the iconic groups lyrics, and enjoying themselves greatly. This is a testament to the legacy Led Zeppelin has built and will leave behind. The phrase, “the dark side of the moon” is synonymous with American culture, and whether people realize it or not there are a plethora of Led Zeppelin references within music, movies, and contemporary art in general. The enthusiasm in both White and Plant’s performances delivered more than what was expected of the potential collaboration. The peak of the show came during White’s stellar guitar solo that really drew the audience in. All the young faces in the crowd swayed back and forth in an enchanted manner throughout the progression of the song, and applauded at the historic moment as it came to a close.
Robert Plant has gone on record saying that he does not want any part of a Led Zeppelin reunion, and in the process he even turned down an $800 million dollar deal. Going forward he is looking to collaborate with the likes of White, and put out newer -maybe even better- content. Plant is going to tour alongside the another iconic group The Pixies for the immediate future. Jack White’s plans range from releasing box sets of Jay-Z’s album, creating interactive videos, and giving away scratch off posters. White is also slated for a performance this April at Coachella, where his act is sure to be one of the biggest draws of the event. It is rare that two icons from different generations bridge the gap and come together. Watch the incredible footage of the Lollapalooza Argentina performance above.
