In what seems like the most hectic first quarter in rap’s history, Action Bronson’s highly anticipated album Mr.Wonderful was released today. The nine-track LP is Bronson’s best body of work to date. The final track on Mr.Wonderful “Baby Blue” received a video treatment that was released today.
The hilarious video pays tribute to one of the funniest movies of all time, which is Eddie Murphy’s classic “Coming To America”. In the beginning Bronson is seen arguing with the older Jewish version of himself in a barbershop over who will win the upcoming Mayweather-Pacquiao fight while cutting his own hair. He wants to look like Michael Jackson. The video then goes into the opening chorus of the song as Action Bronson, promoting Albanian awareness, arrives in America. The “Coming To America” references are on point. There is even a guy sporting a top-notch jerry curl that would make the creators of soul glo proud. Another tie-in to CTA is that Bronson and his friend (Big Body Bes) are workers at a fast food chain, and as Bronson is laying on some pretty heavy game to a girl, a man comes into the store attempting to steal money and “some f*cking cheese fries”. The perpetrator is met with the broomstick-weilding Action Bronson, and quickly figures out that Bronson always wins.
Bronson saves the day, and gets the girl. Chance The Rapper on the other hand is bitter. He lends his time and presence to the video, and raps along as a literal representation of his verse is played out on screen. Every ill will -especially the razor in a paper cup- that he wishes upon the various women he’s around in the video becomes true. So much conviction is put behind the fact he wishes the girl that did him wrong’s “Titties are all saggy in her early twenties”. The rest of the video plays out as the Action’s band called “White Sexual Chocolate” puts on a show to the tune of the horn melody that finishes off the song. Action Bronson showcases his incredible sense of humor, and his pretty smooth dance moves in this greatly produced Lil Chri$ directed video. The video was released today as part of the Youtube Music Awards. Other artists such as FKA Twigs joined in on the event by releasing visuals as well.
As mentioned before, Action Bronson’s new album Mr. Wonderful hit shelves today, and he is going on tour to promote the new release. The Queens MC is putting on for his city, and he is looking at his career getting ready to explode this year. The album he put forth into the world today is a problem this is going to have to be dealt with. Listen to Mr. Wonderful, and in the mean time watch the visual for “Baby Blue” featuring Chance The Rapper above.
