LISTEN: Sufjan Stevens Releases New Song “Carrie & Lowell”

In preparation for the release of his latest album Carrie & Lowell, which will be available at the end of this month, Detroit-born Sufjan Stevens has slowly begun to reveal few of its tracks. His two previously dropped songs include “No Shade In the Shadow of the Cross” and “Should Have Known Better”. Consequence of Sound announced that Stevens has finally treated us with the album’s title track, named after his mother and stepfather.

Mary Anne Hobbs graciously revealed the soothing lullaby during her BBC Radio 6 program. Featuring Stevens’ gently whispered vocals, the track is a beautifully produced acoustic number. The soft, airy nature of the song brings forth a sentiment of melancholy as Stevens sings, “Valentines burn my sorrow.”

Listen to the song “Carrie & Lowell” on BBC Radio 6 (skip to the 33:00 mark). Look out for the complete album on March 31 and catch him live this spring.
