Founded in 1965, The Flamin’ Groovies are back to play at The Roxy on May 13. The band was together for 27 years before they broke up in 1992. Then after a few stints in 2004 and 2008, the band has remained active since 2013. The founding members are Ron Greco, Cyril Jordan and Roy Loney. Both Jordan and Wilson are still in it today.
The band’s first album Supersnazz, released in 1969, contained re-recorded versions of 50s rock ‘n’ roll songs. However the band anticipated what was to come in the following years, as the album also contains songs similar to the power pop movement that would become prevalent in the 70s. Their follow-up album to that was the 1970 Flamingo, which is often cited as drawing from the work of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Their only album to chart was the 1976 Shake Some Action, which reached the Billboard 200 at #142.
The Flamin’s Groovies will perform Shake Some Action at the Roxy. Morgan Delt will also perform in support of the band. Delt is known for bending genres to produce a flower power mix of acid-induced sonic landscapes. Don’t miss out on both The Flamin’ Groovies and Morgan Dent in May.
