Ever seen an album based off of a video game? Well now you have. Welcome to Los Santos features tracks inspired by the series’ first original score, composed by The Alchemist and Oh No in partnership with Woody Jackson and Tangerine Dream. This released single is a great example of the sound you can expect from the project.
The new music will debut exclusively inside the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V on April 14 with a full standalone album to follow on April 21 on CD and vinyl, but the first single to be released off the album is titled “Play it Cool” by Gangrene (The Alchemist and Oh No) featuring Samuel T. Herring (from Future Islands) and Earl Sweatshirt.
The open sound, heavy with accessory percussion like windchimes and laid back jazz beats really adds to the sound of playing it cool. The rap and verbal effects that are added play into the funk sound with a seriousness that can only be provided by someone with a known and implementable direction for their sound.
Of course all of this comes after the recent relay of the release for Grand Theft Auto V for the third time. It’s original release date was set for September. You can read all about it here, from mxdwn.
