Violent Femmes Announce New Album Happy New Year For April 2015 Release

It’s been 15 years since Violent Femmes has released new material. The new 4-track EP will finally arrive in record stores on April 18 this year on Record Store Day.

Happy New Year was recorded in Hobart, Tasmania last year after a sold-out performance on New Year’s Eve at the Sydney Opera House. The first single, titled “Love Love Love Love Love,” has been released and is available for streaming via SoundCloud. It’s a rolling acoustic piece bumps with the classically-eccentric voice of Jake Brebes to produce a rock-meets-bossanova vibe. The track was written by Brebes himself.

After recovering from a lawsuit in 2007 that caused the band to eventually split in 2009, the Milwaukee-based trio returned in a powerful way in 2013. They performed at Coachella, Bottlerock Napa Valley, and Summerfest in Milwaukee that same year. Soon after, the band switched drummers from their original bandmate, Victor DeLorenzo, to Brian Viglione of Dresden Dolls. Most recently, Violent Femmes appeared at Project Pabst in Portland, OR, and Shaky Knees 2014 in Atlanta, GA.

Violent Femmes are headed out on a nationwide tour this year alongside Barenaked Ladies. The tour kicks off later this year in June.
