Makonnen Sheran, better known by his stage name iLoveMakonnen, is an American hip hop recording artist from Atlanta, Georiga. His grandmother was an opera singer, which influenced his musical career. During his High School years, he was inspired by local rap stars including, Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane. He recently started gaining recognition when Drake remixed his song “Tuesday” last year.
After Drake initially heard the song, he reached out to one of the song’s producers and asked to remix the song. Makonnen quickly agreed to send the beat to Drake, but didn’t think much of it. Two days later, Drake released a remix of the song. Makonnen stated “Yeah, I surprised. Shocking. Drake listens to Makonnen. It was great. I was excited. Surprised, shocked. Just overwhelmed.” The remix then went viral and led to a massive increase in interest for iLoveMakonnen.
