On Wednesday, March 18, NPR is going to be in Austin for their SXSW Showcase at Stubb’s BBQ. With so much talent on one stage, it’s going to be a night to remember.
The Showcase features 5 impressive, diverse artists. Among them are Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, Brooklyn-based TV On The Radio, who will be headlining the Showcase, and explosive Belgian hip-hop performer Stromae. The show begins at 8:00pm (CT).
After creating her own label, Milk! Records, in 2012, Courtney Barnett went on to record her EP I’ve Got a Friend called Emily Ferris which put her on the map as a performer to watch. She’ll be making several appearances at SXSW 2015 including The Onion & A. V. Club, FLOODFEST, and day parties for Pitchfork and Spin. Her first studio album Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit drops on March 23 this year. She’s set to tour in the UK and in Europe later this year to promote the album.
TV On The Radio is going to be extremely present at SXSW 2015. In addition to the NPR Showcase, they’re also set to be taped for Austin City Limits. Additionally, they recently released their fifth studio album, Seeds, in November of 2014. While they’ve been touring to promote the new album, health complications of drummer Jahphet Landis have forced them to cancel the European-leg of show dates. They’re still going to cover a lot of ground this year, however.
Stromae is entering the US music scene in a big way. He’s become massively popular in Europe since the release of his first album, Cheese, in 2010. The release of his sophomore album, Racine Carrée, brought him an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Belgian Act in 2013. In addition to topping the charts in Europe, he’s been collaborating on projects with performers like Diplo, Lorde, Kanye West, Haim, Q-Tip, and Pusha T just to name a few. Stromae is geared up to begin touring in the US this year. He’ll be performing at SXSW 2015 both at the NPR Showcase and at the Spotify House. He’ll also be making a massive stop at Coachella later this year.
