Summer Moon Featuring Members Of The Strokes, Au Revoir Simone And The Like Announce SXSW Performance

A new super-group will be playing at South by Southwest (SXSW). The group, named Summer Moon, is made up of members of The Strokes, Au Revoir Simone, and The Like.

Summer Moon features Nikolai Fraiture of The Strokes on bass and vocals. In addition to Fraiture, the band includes The Like drummer Tennessee Thomas, who is credited with forming Summer Moon, and Au Revoir Simone’s Erika Forester (aka: Erika Spring) on keyboards. And, guitarist Lewis Lazar rounds out Summer Moon’s lineup.

In December, the band made their first live appearance together at Baby’s All Right. They performed a short set as one of the surprise guest artists during the David Lynch Foundation Benefit, which featured the Budos Band and Jonathan Toubin. The benefit concert coincided with Tennessee Thomas’s 30^th birthday party; so, her father drummer Pete Thomas, of Elvis Costello fame, played a short set alongside Suzanne Vega with Dev Hynes, according to Brooklyn Vegan.

A reporter from The Examiner was present at the concert and described Summer Moon’s sound as being “harder than the melodic pop of both Strokes and Like, with Tennessee Thomas giving it jet propulsion.”

While Summer Moon emerged in December, Fraiture had previously worked with Au Revoir Simone. In June 2014, they teamed up to cover Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You”. At that time, it appeared that further collaborations would not happen, because those involved had said that it was a one time collaboration that most likely would not lead into recording substantial material together, according to NME.

Fast-forward to December 2014 and they clearly changed their tune; however, no Summer Moon music is available to listen to or purchase online, yet. But, the band has registered a website domain. Check it out.

Summer Moon is playing a show on Saturday February 28^th, 2015, at Baby’s All Right. They will be opening a concert that is headlined by Sean Lennon’s Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. The show also features performances by Invisible Familiars and Tall Tall Trees, according to Brooklyn Vegan. Additionally, Brooklyn Vegan is reporting that the concert is sold out.

Looking ahead at Summer Moon’s calendar of events, they will be playing a show as a part of Austin’s SXSW festival in March. And, the band will be opening the Father John Misty and Angel Olsen concert on August 5^th, 2015, during Central Park Summerstage.
