Crocodiles have confirmed the release date for the follow-up record to 2013’s Crimes Of Passion. Their fifth album, Boys, is set for an April release this year, and to commemorate the upcoming release, the lads have revealed a single off of the album called “Crybaby Demon.”
The Crocodiles have been relatively quiet since the release of their fourth studio record, the illustrious Crimes Of Passion. Outside of a couple of concerts here and there over the last year, including a stint at the Empire Control Room, it has been hard pressed to get a glimpse of the group live. All of that now seems to be changing in fairly rapid order, as Crocodiles have announced the release date for Boys, set to come out in April of this year. Crocodiles retreated to Mexico City to get in the studio for this latest effort, and through a sort of musical osmosis, the sights and sounds of Mexico City have permeated throughout this new record.
The single that the Crocodiles have released in anticipation of the record’s arrival is completely and utterly fantastic. Titled “Crybaby Demon,” the song is saturated with fuzzy guitars and the vocals hang in the air on the line “She gets so high,” that one almost travels to the same high as the female referred to in the song. While not technically showing as much of the cultural influence that is present in the record as we have been lead to believe, “Crybaby Demon” seems more like it was inspired from Gerard Way’s first solo record that came out just a few short months ago. The heavy drum beats and the fuzzy guitar work are so similar, in fact, that one wonders if Way may or may not have sat in on the sessions to oversee this particular track. Regardless of the influences, imagined or not, the song is wonderful, and it holds huge promise for Boys once it hits store shelves.
Boys will be available on April 28th.
