For their collaborative song “Tether,” Chvrches and Eric Prydz have a released a trippy new video featuring mirrored cubes floating through natural landscapes as well as civilized city-scapes.
As far as the video is concerned, it focuses on the presence of a surreal, gigantic mirror cube, reflecting everything in it’s path. We start off with impressive shots of a desert landscape, the mirror cube rotating to display the cliffs and sand of the environs with passive splendor. This dominates the first minute of the song, as the music slowly builds; by the time the chorus bursts open, the mirror cube goes rogue, jetting across deserts, forests and cities. The box then melts into fluid, begins disintegrating, all the while still reflecting the pageantry of Earth–from untamed nature to urban sprawl–with an unblinking eye.
Soon, the cube is within a typical urban apartment, and it has several televised images on it’s multiple surfaces. Suddenly, the televised images disappear and any reflection is gone. After a moment, the cube begins to fill with a propagating nervous system of LED synapses that eventually turn into a human form right before the song breaks back into its chorus. Other than the new track, Chvrches have been very busy lately, most recently covering Justin Timberlake’s pop classic “Cry Me River” for BBC’s Live Lounge show. They also had a very productive period at the end of 2014, including releasing a colored vinyl 12” version of Under the Tide, which made mxdwn’s favorite Black Friday releases. Briefly before that, they released the new single “Dead Air” for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 soundtrack.
In October of 2014, they had another massively productive month, which kicked off with them performing a new song “Richard Pryor” at the Austin City Limits festival. Right after that, they were featured in Zane Lowe’s reimagined soundtrack for Drive,which also featured SBTRKT and Foals. They closed the month with new video for “Under the Tide.”
While Eric Prydz was featured on the same reimagined soundtrack from Drive, the Swedish DJ has also been busy with the announcement that he will be featured in the Spring Awakening Festival this June in Chicago. He also recently announced his Winter 2015 tour dates, which include several festival appearances, such as the Ultra Music Festival. Prydz also appeared at last year’s Hard Day of the Dead and Electric Daisy Carnival.
