Marian Hill @ Boot & Saddle 4/24

One of the hottest bands out of Philly right now is arguably Marian Hill. The duo consisting of Jeremy Lloyd (production) and Samantha Gongol (vocals). Most recently, the pair played a Boot & Saddle show in December. They amassed a moderate attendance at the delightfully intimate venue, but as their popularity continues to grow, their upcoming shows are bound to be much more packed. You can catch them next when they play again at The Boot on April 24th.

The Philadelphia pair have a busy year ahead of them. In April they have a DC performance with Misterwives. They’ll be busy for much of the spring on their own tour, with a few festival stops along the way including SXSW and Firefly. This year at SXSW they are popping up at a ton of events, so it seems inevitable that 2015 is Marian Hill’s year to shine.

If the pair seem to have great chemistry on stage, perhaps it’s due to their long friendship. (They’ve known each other since middle school). In 2013, they wrote their song “Whisky” in just a few days. They sent the track to a slew of blogs, and things grew from there. They just recently released their new EP SwaySway is the sequel to the pair’s earlier release Play. In addition to some remastered tracks from PlaySway also features some new songs as well. Standouts include “One Time,” and “Got It.” Drawing on influences that range from Drake to Ella Fitzgerald, Marian Hill have developed a sound that they refer to as “classic bass sway.” Whatever you choose to call it, it seems to be working for them. They’ve amassed over 11 million streams on Spotify and their buzz shows no signs of slowing down. Catch them while you can on a tiny stage!
