Indie band Best Coast have announced their third album California Nights, and have released a teaser trailer.
Lo-fi duo Best Coast have announced their new album, California Nights, to be released May 5th on Harvest Records.
The record is a follow up to 2013’s Fade Away EP and their 2012 album The Only Place. Recently, the band released a string of tour dates this Spring, beginning with a performance at The Echo in Los Angeles on February 19th.
Lead singer Bethany Cosentino spoke with Rolling Stone about the inspiration behind California Nights and said, “I would say that this record, at least right now the way we’ve been demoing and the way I’ve been writing, is a lot more inspired by the Nineties and a lot less inspired by the Sixties.”
The teaser trailer the band put out definitely hits the 90s mark, ditching the 60s pop sound for a stronger grunge influence. Best Coast collaborated with Butch Walker on the new album, recording as his Santa Monica studio. Cosentino stated about working with Walker,
“I wanted to make a record that was more pop without transforming into this full-on pop band. We’ve had plenty of conversations about it and I very much feel like Butch is the absolute right person to work with on the record.”
California Nights is out May 5th, and you can catch Best Coast on their tour and at SXSW.
