Unknown Mortal Orchestra have announced a new album, their third LP to be released this spring. You can take a listen to Multi-Love when it drops on May 26th via Jagjaguwar. The band’s recent press release gives fans some insight on what to expect from the new material, saying it “reflects on relationships: airy, humid longing, loss, the geometry of desire that occurs when three people align.” Those three people being frontman Ruban Nielson, bassist Jake Portrait, and drummer Riley Geare.
To support the release of their third LP, Unknown Mortal Orchestra will be headed out on an extensive North American tour. They’ll kick things off in Oregon in early May, before making their way to Philly for two dates at Boot & Saddle on June 16th and 17th. You can grab your tickets now for either of those shows. Or both, if you just can’t get enough. It’s worth mentioning that Philly is the only stop of the tour that earned itself two headlining performances.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their debut self-titled album back in 2011. A slew of critical acclaim would later lead to the band winning the Taite Music Prize for the album. The following year, they signed to Jagjaguwar and released their second album, // in 2013. Like the first album, UMO’s second released was met with steady critical acclaim. They won Best Alternative Album at the New Zealand Music Awards. That same year they were named as one of the must-see acts at SXSW by Fuse TV. They capped off their success with lengthy US and international tours as well as several festival appearances.
And now, they’re set to debut their third album, Multi-Love. The album “adds dimensions to the band’s already kaleidoscopic approach, with Nielson exploring a newfound appreciation for synthesizers. The new songs channel the spirit of psych innovators without ignoring the last 40 years of music, forming a flowing, cohesive whole that reflects restless creativity.” Look for the new release when it drops on May 26th. And be sure to grab your tickets for their shows at The Boot this June!
