2015 Rockfest-goers will get to hear Deftone’s legendary Around The Fur from beginning to end this year in Montebellow, Canada during the festival’s 10th anniversary.
The massive Canadian rock festival, Amnesia Rockfest, has announced that Deftones will be playing their second studio album Around The Fur in its entirety as part of the 2015 showcase. They performed the full album once before back in 2011 in Portland, OR. Released in 1997, Around The Fur stands as a fundamental piece of the development of alternative metal that helped put Deftones on the map. The album reached RIAA gold status in 1999 and was eventually certified platinum in 2011.
Around The Fur set the course of Deftone’s overarching sound in an important way. It’s a powerful album full of distinct loud-soft dynamics through lead singer Chino Moreno’s unique vocals alongside intense rhythm sections and percussive experimentation. It also utilizes unique track transition to create a flowing experience from start to finish.
The album includes singles “My Own Summer (Shove It)” and “Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away),” which was featured in The Matrix: Music From The Motion Picture. These two huge releases received a large amount of radio play as well as accompanying MTV attention. Also included on the album is the track “Headup” featuring Soulfly vocalist Max Cavalera.
Through Around The Fur and the band’s following 6 studio albums, Deftones has become one of the most essential bands of alternative metal throughout the past 2 decades. Not only have they drastically expanded the scope of metal through experimentation and emotional production, but they have also acted as a major influence to the continued development of rock music up to the present. Even alternative rock band Muse has cited Deftones as a major influence to their sound and even incorporate “Headup” into their own song “New Born” during live shows.
The fact that Around The Fur is going to be performed in its entirety is not only important to the band’s massive fan base, but it also offers the ultimate celebration of the album’s depth and overall quality. If you’re headed to Rockfest this year, you’re in for a treat. We’ll see you there.
Deftones are also scheduled to play at Rock In Rio this year.
