The Pop Group will be playing at the Echoplex for the first show of the North American leg of the “Zombie World Tour” along with supporting acts Peaking Lights, Sex Stains and DJ Michael Stock (Part Time Punks). The Pop Group originally formed in England in 1977 releasing two albums Y and For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? before disbanding in 1981.The post-punk band reformed in 2010 and announced their first new album in 35 years titled Citizen Zombie. The album will be available on Feb. 24, 2015 via Freaks R Us.
Since reforming, The Pop Group has reissued its 1980 We Are Time compilation containing live tracks from the late 1970s and also the new compilation Cabinet of Curiosities released last October featuring live songs, alternate mixed songs and previously unreleased material.
The band is known for fusing punk, jazz and other genres not commonly seen mixed together with a dash of political lyrics in a very progressive, artistic fashion. The Pop Group collaborated with Italian director and actress Asia Argento on the video of their first single “Mad Truth” from Citizen Zombie.
